We saw Daredevil tonight. I wasn’t expecting much going in, and at first I was pleasantly surprised. The dark feel of the film sucked me in, and kept reminding me that it was based on a comic book (Could Matt Murdock’s dad look any more like a comic book character?) I didn’t even seem to mind the cheesey “fight” scene between Matt and Elektra. But then, it lost me. About three quarters of the way through the movie, the plot came to a screeching halt and I started to lose interest in the story. Darn. The fates of the main characters offered a refreshing twist, but by then, it was too late…
Ben Afleck did a nice job as the hero, and Jennifer Garner was her usual tough, adorable self. Colin Ferrell played the evil henchmen perfectly and he didn’t even have to hide his accent. If you really want to see Daredevil go for it. You’ll probably enjoy it. If you have any doubts, wait for the DVD. Maybe the deleted scenes would make the plot make more sense.
In contrast to last week’s entry on 24, I have to say that I am getting pretty sick of Alias. The only thing that makes the show bearable is Jennifer Garner and Ron Rifkin. But please, are any of the events in the show remotely interesting or exciting?
*sigh*
This show is slowly deteriorating to a cross between Dawson’s Creek and Mission: Impossible. (Jill’s crack at a title: “CIA: 90210″)
Jill and I went over to Tim, Zanne, and Isabella’s house for game night! After a few rounds of Scattergories and some pig passing, we started a game of Uno. Zanne took the first two rounds, I won the third. Then the marathon round from hell began. Twenty minutes into the round I got to Uno when Jill hit me with a Wild Draw Four! (Thanks, honey…) After some tea and five shuffles of the discard pile, we all started to get loopy. Everything started to sound super funny, and the round felt like it never was going to end… Actually, it never did. We decided to call the game after the hour and a half round and we named Zanne the winner… I wonder what the record is for the longest round of Uno?
I’m half way through Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. I’m enjoying learning about Jango’s past and how it ties into the events of Episode II.
Continuity question: Weren’t the poison darts Jango used Kaminoan of origin? There is no mention of him ever visiting Kamino before the events in the game, yet he is equipped with these same darts as a standard weapon. Didn’t Obi-Wan track Jango’s location by the type of dart he used on Zam Wessel? Anyway, maybe this question will be answered later…
Last season, I went with the Fox hype, and was surprised to discover that 24 was actually a pretty darn good show. I was worried that season 2 would be a bit of a let down, but so far, it has had the perfect mix of twists, suspense and action. I wonder when Nina will resurface…
Is it just me or is the “new thing” in typography design to use ALL CAPS? I’ve noticed many magazines, television commercials, etc. using all caps for text treatments lately. I guess since lowercase styles have been pretty popular for the last decade or so, the pendulum is now swinging toward using all caps again. :)
I can already hear the Raider fans moaning about calls not going their way… My analysis: The Raiders got worked by a dominating Buc defense. Period.
This whole “Attack on Iraq” thing is getting pretty crazy. Jill and I talked about how difficult it is to sort through news stories to glean “the truth.” This prompted me to do some fallacy searches on Google (which I call “The Oracle”), and I found a great weblog that keeps track of fallacious statements in mainstream media.
This reminded me of a quote from Dr. Jim Daley (Psychology teacher at DVC):
The truth is elusive…
