Interrobang

Today, while discussing the ampersand character with Sarah at work (don’t ask—its a long story…) I discovered the existence of a crazy punctuation mark I’d never heard of before:

The interrobang.

The interrobang is apparently a cross between a question mark and an exclamation point and is supposed to convey curiosity and attitude. For example:

Huh‽

(Wow! There is even an X/HTML entity for it… :) )

The Fading Padres

A few weeks ago, I was feeling pretty good about the Padres‘ chances of making the playoffs. They were a few games behind the Dodgers, fighting it out with the Giants for second place in the National League West. The last few months of the season looked exciting…

Then, in a matter of weeks, things got bleak. Hoffman blew a few saves, most of the starting pitchers began to pitch batting practice and the batting lineup started to hit like last year’s last place team. Meanwhile, the Dodgers and Giants continued playing great baseball. Now, instead of looking to win the National League west, the Padres are struggling to stay on the list of wild card contenders. (At the time of this post the Padres are 7 games behind the Dodgers and 2.5 games behind the Giants for the wild card spot with 39 games left in the season.)

Being the “die-hard” San Diego Padres fan that I am, I will continue to follow their fate this season. They aren’t completely out of it. Maybe they can go on a tear and squeak into the playoffs. That would be pretty cool, but the way they’ve been playing lately (7-12 since August 1st) , I won’t be holding my breath…

Doh!

Well, it appears as though the summer heat finally got to Abbey (my web server…). The hard drive was starting to have problems and I managed to salvage a few files, but before I could back up the blog and a few other files, the drive crashed and I lost data… :(

I was able to restore the drive back to May 2004 and it looks as if I will be visiting Google for the cached versions of the other posts! :)

Anyway, I apologize if you posted a comment recently and it’s now gone. I will try and restore comments soon…

Update: I am about 70% finished updating Morphica (the theme for this blog).
